Familiarity and the ability to work with large variety of media are qualifications needed for graphic designer. While technology certain is a large part of the design field today, the aspiring designer needs to be able to draw, photograph and paint to some extent as well as understand the basics in each of these areas. A large subset of the graphic design world is in the development of typefaces and letterforms that are used in everything from novels to menus to the credits that roll at the end of television shows and movies.
In an interesting paradox, most designers quickly become bored with routine and could never function in a field like accounting that is black and white, yet they have a huge attraction to beautiful items that perform functions.
